OUR HISTORY

They say that innovation is borne from frustration. This saying rings true when analyzing the reasons why Hexagon Health, Inc., was born in 2015. By that time, our Founder, Dr. Shirin Towfigh, had already had a successful surgical practice for 13 years. As an expert hernia surgeon world renown for her expertise in treating complications after hernia surgery, she was frustrated that there was a lack of innovation and forward thinking in her field. She noted the obvious lack of studies of females with hernias. She saw that the patient experience was left out of most of the design ideas by the hernia industry. She was treating complications from hernia surgery, many of which could be prevented by improving hernia mesh device design.

Hexagon Health, Inc., was developed to help address these frustrations. The six pillars of the Company were tailored to represent the areas in which Dr. Towfigh felt there was a lack of emphasis in the hernia field. These include expertise via Consultation, new Technology, Research that includes females, Patient Care that is truly centered around the patient, promoting a Lifestyle based on a strong core, and using Education to promote advanced thinking at both the physician and the patient level.

WHY THE HEXAGON?

It is true the hexagon is the strongest shape found in nature. We see it in honeycombs, basalt columns, bubbles, cyclic compounds. But the real reason for choosing the hexagon is it represents the shape of the abdomen and pelvis. When surgeons take notes about their patients, they draw the hexagon shape and then mark areas of pain and note any surgical scars. Thus, the relevance of the shape to Hexagon Health, which focuses on abdominal wall and pelvic health. The six pillars of the Company were developed to reflect the six-sided structure.
